The Grab Bag of Questions # 27

Welcome to the Warhammer Online Grab Bag, where your friendly neighborhood community manager will answer the most popular, and most interesting, questions in a new regular feature. Many things aren't yet certain, so try to be patient with us. Trust me - we're as eager as you are to see the features finalized, so that we can hear what you've got to say.

Q: Will there be different types of lions that can be tamed with different skills or roles?

A: There will be just one lion type, but many different ways to train it. Depending on which training you choose, your pet's role and abilities will change. You will be able to change trainings easily, but you will eventually need to decide which is right for you and your War Lion.

Q: What weapon options will the White Lion have?

A: The White Lion will primarily use Great Axes. The War Lion will use...well...claws and fangs!

Q: Will the death of the pet affect the White Lion in any way or vice versa? Does the lion go into a frenzy if its master is controlled and what happens if the White Lion gets resurrected?

A: While the player is not inherently affected if his War Lion perishes, he does have access to several tactics which impact how his pet lives, fights, and - if it comes to it - dies.

Q: Will the White Lion's stats and buffs transfer to the pet?

A: The War Lion is not modified by effects on its owner. However, as the White Lion increases his Masteries, he will also increase the impact of his training, which will in turn increase the War Lion's effectiveness.

Q: One of the biggest problems I have had with pet classes is that in some cases it almost feels like your pet is doing all the work and you just follow him around pretending to help, with the White Lion class is the player going to feel a real balance with the player and his/her pet or is one of them going to be the true power while the other is just helping?

A: The balance and feel of playing a White Lion will be entirely your choice! Depending on which Mastery paths you specialize in and which training choices you make, your War Lion will either fight with you as an equal companion, increase its defenses and threaten enemies so that you can do the majority of the damage, OR throw itself into the fight with rage and fury as you work to control your enemies' attention.

Q: After my Lion has taken damage how does someone go about healing them? Over time (out of combat natural healing), other party member heals, or will we get a pet heal?

A: The White Lion has abilities to soothe his pet and mend the War Lion's wounds, but it may also be healed just the same as any other allied target.

Q: Does the War Lion remain alive and continue attacking the enemy if the master is killed, or does the Lion automatically despawn?

A: The War Lion is lost and confused without its owner, and will fade from the field of battle if its master dies.

Q: Will pet attacks use up slots on your skill bars or will they have their own bar for the pet attacks and abilities?

A: Your War Lion companion will have its own ability bar entirely, but as a White Lion, you'll also have abilities of your own which affect your pet as well.

Q: Are there Female White Lions too?

A: Yes. White Lions are not a gender-restricted career.

Q: Does the War Lion have a complete set of stats, resistance, action points, equipment, level, Morale and Tactics of its own?

A: Yes, the War Lion does indeed have stats and action points of its own. While it does not have Morale or Tactics of its own, the White Lion does have Tactics and Morale which impact his companion.

Q: Will the War Lion be able to double as a pet and a mount?

A: We have not yet finalized how the War Lion will interact with or affect the player mount system.

Q: Will the pet gain levels through experience, or will it be based on the character's level/abilities?

A: Your pet will be based on your own rank and mastery; there won't be any need to "level grind" your War Lion.

Q: Is the White Lion only effective in close combat, or will it have the same ranged potential as the Squig Herder?

A: The White Lion and the Squig Herder are entirely different careers, and fill different roles. The White Lion is the melee attacker for the High Elves, and his War Lion pet is likewise a melee combatant.
